Gerrick awoke to beeping.
And to the beeping Gerrick decided to go back to sleep. He could wake up in five minutes, make some coffee, and then of course turn off that damn clock.
"Wait," Gerrick thought, "What clock?" just as he was thrust out of his pod onto the hard metal deck. The captain, who had seemed so tall and confident at the press release before launch landed adjacent to him with a "thud" all but drowned out by hissing of the pneumatic tubes opening the other three pods.
